Die cutting

Die-cutting (or cutting, gusseting) is one of the leading procedures performed during the post-printing processing of printing products. Die-cutting is carried out in the printing house when producing stickers, plastic cards, booklets, leaflets, playing cards, flyers, price tags, labels, folders, wrappers, book covers, calendars, labels, packaging.

Die-cutting is performed by striking a die along a contour. It helps to create products of complex shapes from various materials: cardboard, film, paper, plastic, leather, foil.

Die-cutting dies are made individually and depend on the type of product. A die is a knife of a unique design and is part of a die press. A die can be made once and used for several products.

With a small run, the price of die-cutting services does not decrease, as there is an initial cost. If we are talking about large runs, then making a die for several products will be more profitable, as it will reduce the number of punches and, accordingly, save the budget.

Recommendations:

  • Die-cutting large runs of products is cheaper.
  • When ordering folders, wobblers, tags, and other products, it is important to check with the printing house about the availability of dies for such products.
  • The rounded corners of pocket calendars, business cards, and postcards can be made using special equipment for rounding corners. This will save your budget, but there may be inaccuracies. If you want a flawless product, you should give preference to knife cutting.
  • It is important to plan the cutting of curly products in advance, as an individual knife can be made in two days or less.
